Out and In2005'Gigantic' The Soap Factory The study of space and environments - what separates this from that. I went throughout the exhibition space and made recordings of the space itself; doors clanking, floors creaking, phones ringing... I then pumped those sounds through speakers planted within the ceiling. In essence, the sounds of the building where emanating in a more exaggerated way around the large 'flesh tube' that stood in the middle of the space. The noises within the 'flesh tube' were recordings of bodily noises; stomach growls, burps, the sound of eating... One would walk around the space, then walk into the 'flesh tube' - the contrast of the sonic environments created visceral reactions with the people who experienced the piece... All sound files on this website are abbreviated versions of the actual installation. - sounds of the buidling itself - - sounds of bodily functions -
